While Ken Cockrel Jr. has served as the interim mayor of Detroit, Freman Hendrix is the candidate who has been closest to acquiring the position on a permanent basis.

While the loss was disappointing and surprising to the Hendrix team, they have approached the chance to be elected as mayor again with renewed enthusiasm.
A special primary election will be held Feb. 24 to cut the field down to two candidates. The final election for mayor will be held on May 5.
This time around, the Hendrix campaign is leaving no stone unturned, including the Arab American community. Hendrix has made multiple visits to Dearborn to talk with Detroit Arab business owners about their needs and concerns.
In one visit to the Lebanese American Heritage Club in Dearborn, Hendrix said that the downtown area of Detroit is now something for people to be proud of, but that the neighborhoods were neglected by the past administration and that their improvement will be one of the biggest areas of emphasis for him should he be elected as mayor.

Other areas of focus include restoring trust to the city’s government, fighting crime with more officers on the streets, creating jobs, giving tax breaks to new businesses, better managing the city budget, and fixing Detroit Public Schools.
Hendrix has prior experience working under former Detroit mayor Dennis Archer as both his chief of staff and as his deputy mayor. Hendrix holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University.
A recent poll in conducted by Denno Noor showed Hendrix in third place behind Cockrel and Detroit businessman Dave Bing, with 12 other candidates polling at under 4 percent.
