East Lansing, MI — The Prima Civitas Foundation (PCF) and
the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will hold the 2011 Iraq
Export Opportunity for Michigan Businesses Forum, taking place on Monday, June
13th from 8:30 – 11:00 am in the Lake Michigan Room of the MEDC in Lansing.
The Forum’s
purpose is to inform and prepare Michigan companies to take part in a statewide
effort to export products and services to the Republic of Iraq. This
opportunity was recently offered by Dr. Sami Al-Araji, a Michigan State University
alum and current Chairman of the Republic of Iraq National Investment
Commission.
During a recent
visit with business leaders, PCF, the MEDC and partners in East Lansing, Dr.
Al-Araji discussed specific opportunities for Michigan companies to engage in
Iraq, the largest of which was the prospect of assembling a consortium of
Michigan businesses to bid on the construction of 100,000 residential homes
throughout the country — an estimated $5.5-6 billion project.
Panel speakers
will include Michigan companies currently working in the region as well as
representatives from the Trade Bank of Iraq, U.S. Department of Commerce,
Export-Import Bank of the United States, U.S. Foreign Commercial Service, and
the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
