SHANGHAI – Michigan Governor Rick Snyder announced that the “Global Michigan Initiative” that began two months ago will now grow to include more trade missions, a visa program and cultural initiatives as well.
Snyder spent two days in China this past weekend before heading to South Korea on his first trade mission which he says is to promote the state’s business environment with the hopes of creating jobs. He will return to China next year, local reports said. A potential idea revolves around mining copper and other minerals in the Upper Peninsula. Snyder reportedly also wants to ask “ethnic communities” in the state to recruit legal immigrants to come to Michigan to create jobs. He calls the immigrants “job creators” and plans to communicate with the communities to attract people to Michigan.
