LANSING — According to State Dept. of Human Services Director Maura Corrigan, food stamp applicants will be able to keep two cars to get to work, school, and job interviews as of Jan. 1
The agency had been previously telling applicants who owned vehicles with market values of more than $15,000 that they’d no longer be eligible for assistance. The changes state that applicants can exempt one vehicle but the second can’t be worth more than $5,000. The limit for vehicles is part of a new requirement that applicants must have less than $5,000 in the bank to receive assistance from the state.
