DETROIT - A Detroit judge on Thursday overturned the three-year ban that prohibits Florida Pastor Terry Jones from protesting at the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. The judge said that restricting the protest was legal but the ban was not. Jones had appealed his prosecution for attempting to “breach the peace.”
Afterwards Jones said he would return to the ICA and protest in the spring of 2012. Jones is known for his aggressive, hateful messages about Islam and supervised a burning of the Qur’an in March 2011, though he says he’s only targeting “radical Islam.”
On Wednesday, Jones gave a presentation to journalism students at Central Michigan University that was focused around the discussion of First Amendment rights.
