DEARBORN — A 12-year-old boy from Gaza who arrived in metro Detroit in November seeking medical attention got a prosthetic leg on Tuesday. The procedure was performed at Dr. Jiab Sulieman’s office here. Dr. Sulieman has partnered up with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) to provide medical assistance for children from around the world who otherwise wouldn’t have access to it.
Muath Abudaher has been staying with Yasmeen Hamed, who along with her husband and four children have been hosting his three month stay here. Abudaher lives in Gaza with his 11 siblings and father. He is here on a visa seeking medical attention for his amputated leg.
Nour Saker, one of the PCRF Detroit chapter’s committee members has spent a lot of time with Abudaher, and continues to tutor him. She says he enjoys bowling, and is excited about taking part in the activity with two legs.
The initiative was organized by the PCRF which brought three other children along with Abudaher to seek medical attention. This is not the first time Hamad has hosted a child at her home. Through the PCRF, she’s opened her home to other needy children who also sought treatment from Dr. Sulieman. Abudaher’s mother died when he was only four-years-old, and a few years later he ended up losing his leg due to bone cancer.
The PCRF has been spearheading similar cases for years, and flying children in need of medical attention to different countries, giving them hope. The PCRF doesn’t only target Palestinian children, they have helped civilians from other Arab countries, regardless of their nationality and religion.
