DEARBORN — More than 100 young Arab Americans gathered at the Lebanese American Heritage Club (LAHC) on Friday, Oct. 11 to celebrate unity, promote teamwork and build new friendships.
The event included students from the Arab Student Union, Lebanese Student Association and LAHC Youth Leadership Committee (YLC).
The groups have chapters at Wayne State University, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Fordson High School, Henry Ford Community College and Michigan State University.
The event included food, dancing and other entertainment. High school, college and recent graduates were in attendance. The college graduates made presentations about their own experiences and chosen career paths, in an effort to reach out and help current college and high school students. City council candidates Tarek Baydoun and Susan Dabaja were also present and met with youth. “We wanted the young professionals, who have recently started careers in the workforce, to share their experiences in hopes that those listening could get good advice and guidance,” Hussein Hachem, President of the LAHC-YLC said. “Basically, the goal of these types of events is to promote unity and teamwork between the youth. We wanted to form a social hub where friendships could be built.”
