DETROIT — On Tuesday, the family of Renisha McBride filed a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against Theodore Wafer in Wayne County Circuit Court.
McBride, a Detroit resident, was shot and killed by Dearborn Heights resident in November. The civil lawsuit seeks damages in the 19-year-old’s death.
Earlier this month, Wafer, 55, was convicted of second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm charges in the November 2 death of McBride. He told police he shot McBride with a shotgun when she banged on the front door of his home at 4:40 a.m., because he feared she was trying to break into his house.
