DETROIT—Brian McKeen, managing partner of McKeen & Associates and an attorney representing several of the Dr. Farid Fata’s patients issued a statement this week that said the hospital and corporate institutions that allowed the disgraced physician’s behavior to continue should be held accountable.
Fata plead guilty to intentionally misdiagnosing patients with cancer and mistreating those who suffered from the disease to enrich himself. He administered chemotherapy to patients who had no chance of survival.
“It’s all good and well that Dr. Fata has pled guilty, but there must be accountability in the civil justice system. The scores of victims who suffered injury and the families of those who died because of Dr Fata’s behavior deserve compensation. There must also be accountability on the part of the hospital and corporate institutions that allowed his behavior to go unchecked,” McKeen said.
He was part of a $35 million scheme to submit false claims to Medicare. Fata is scheduled for sentencing before U.S. Judge Paul D. Borman Monday, July 6. According to the government Fata victimized 553 patients.
