WASHINGTON — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is asking the Metropolitan Police Department to preserve any surveillance video they may have of a Trump supporter attacking a Muslim woman.
According to CAIR, a Muslim woman – who is African-American – was wearing a hijab outside of a Starbucks in Northwest, Washington on April 21.
It was then when the alleged Trump supporter shouted slurs such as: “f*cking Muslim” and “f*cking Muslim trash,” and allegedly told the woman to “go back to where you came from.”
The Trump supporter, described as a white woman with blonde hair, told the victim she was voting for Donald Trump and “expressed hope that he would send ‘all of you terrorist Muslims out of this country,'” the organization states.
CAIR says the victim called 911, but once the officer arrived on the scene, he told her there was nothing that could be done because it was “freedom of speech.”
CAIR says when the officer left, the alleged Trump supporter walked away, but later returned. She allegedly approached the victim from behind and poured an unknown liquid over her head.
The victim allegedly called 911 again, according to CAIR.
“We urge investigators to seek out and preserve any surveillance video relevant to the case and to bring hate crime charge enhancements once the alleged perpetrator has been apprehended,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Police are now investigating this incident as a hate crime.
