BLOOMFIELD HILLS — On Thursday, April 23, Midwest Recycling teamed up with the American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Regional Chapter, for a day-long used clothing collection and blood donation drive at Detroit Country Day Upper and Lower Schools. The event exceeded expectations in both the poundage of clothing amassed and pints of blood donated.
The event was the first of its kind that underscores the new partnership between Midwest Recycling and the American Red Cross, which will include more events as well as the placement of additional clothing collection bins throughout Southeastern Michigan to supplement the 400 currently at various locations.
“Our partnership with the American Red Cross is vital to our mission to help families in need,” Abe Hachem, president of Midwest Recycling said. “We are excited for future events to advance our shared goals of further ensuring the programs needed by families in crisis: disaster relief, shelter, blood for the sick and injured and so much more.”
Since November, the partnership has already provided more than $17,000 in donations to the Red Cross, with Midwest Recycling recently committing an additional $25,000 for the 2015 American Red Cross Giving Day on June 2.
Midwest Recycling’s contributions to the nonprofit has designated it as one of three presenting national sponsors for Giving Day— the only Michigan-based company to achieve this recognition.
