DEARBORN — The ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services) 2008 Summer Job Fair is coming to Dearborn on Wednesday, July 16 and more than 700 people are expected to attend based on last year’s numbers.
Job seekers can expect to find at least 36 companies on hand searching for new employees, and more confirmations are expected as companies often register a day or two before each ACCESS job fair.
The job fair begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. and will take place at the ACCESS building at 6451 Schaefer Road, which is about half-way between Ford and Warren roads.
Some of the employers expected to attend include: AFLAC insurance company, Chase Bank, Comerica Bank, the Dearborn Police Department, the Michigan Institute of Aviation & Technology, Global Information Technology, FedEx, the FBI, and Hamadeh Education Services.
“We always have a good turnout and we’ve been doing job fairs for years,” said Mustapha Mounajed, Job Development and Business Employment Services Coordinator for ACCESS Employment & Training. “The job fair is open to the community in general so we really get all kinds of backgrounds and everyone is welcome to attend.”
Mounajed recommended that job seekers bring at least 10 copies of their resumes for the event in order to get your name out to multiple companies. Even if a company doesn’t have a job opening that interests you, giving them a resume could lead to a more appealing job when an opening becomes available down the road.
Because the event is so crowded and time is limited, it is also recommended that job seekers arrive as early as possible to give themselves chances to meet with employers who may be in high demand.
Dress for the event is business casual. Mounajed recommends that attendees wear whatever they would normally wear to a job interview.
ACCESS holds three major job fairs every year: one in March and one in October and next week’s job fair. For information, call 313.945.8159.
