DEARBORN — Thanks to an outpouring of support from the
community both locally and internationally, 20-month-old Amir Samhat of Lebanon
will head to either the United States or France on July 15th for a bone marrow
transplant. He has been diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia.
Over $375,000 was raised, mostly from small donations, since
November 2010, according to Amir’s older cousin Ali Samhat of Michigan. Among
the contributors to the fund-raising efforts were local community members from
the Dearborn area as they attended a fundraiser at Bint Jebail Cultural Center
in the city on Feb. 3. The family had originally planned to sell their flat in
Lebanon to raise 25% of the cost.
Ali Samhat said he wanted to express deep and sincere
appreciation and thanks for the efforts and asked the community to keep Amir in
their prayers. For questions or comments contact him at asamhat@hotmail.com or
