The Congress of Arab American Organizations (CAAO) has received approval for two billboards supporting the Palestinian cause from CBS Outdoor, the largest out-of-home advertising company in the U.S.
The billboards are expected to go up Monday, Feb. 2, and feature the messages “America, yes we can!” and “Peace with justice for Palestinians now!” To the left of the writing will be the Palestinian flag with the message “Free Palestine” written underneath.

The billboards will be seen on I-94 West at the Greenfield exit facing east and on northbound Southfield Freeway and Grand River Avenue facing south. They are to remain for four weeks.

CAAO submitted two initial messages to CBS Outdoor that were rejected because of language deemed too critical of Israel. The first message said “End the Israeli occupation of Palestine” while the second said “The U.S. gives $8 million a day to Israel” as well as “Israel kills civilians” followed by the phrase “Your tax dollars at work!”

Funds for the billboards were raised through donations made at various local demonstrations against the seige and recent 23-day attack on Gaza.
