DEARBORN — The Police Department will remain under its current, established chain of command until Mayor Jack O’Reilly appoints a new Chief, according to city officials.
The department was left without an individual leader last week when longtime Chief of Police Michael Celeski died of a heart attack on July 28.
“The Mayor will make a decision about appointing a new chief in a timely and appropriate manner,” said city spokesperson Mary Laundroche. “In the meantime, the department will rely on its established leadership structure for day-to-day operations.”
The department is divided into patrol, investigative and support divisions, lead by Commanders Joe Doulette, Gregg Brighton and Jeffrey Geisinger, respectively.
“The department also has a solid leadership team with its lieutenants and professional officers throughout, who are making sure that the department functions as usual, even if everyone still has a heavy heart,” Laundroche said.
