Dearborn Heights resident Joseph Saad (above) alleges he was beaten by city police a second time after his family file a lawsuit last week.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS — A Dearborn Heights family plans to sue the city and its police department for a second time following an alleged incident last Saturday, July 10 that came on the heels of a similar alleged incident from March described in a lawsuit filed last week.

In the first lawsuit, Mahmoud and Zihra Saad, a married couple ages 86 and 78, respectively, allege that Dearborn Heights Police officers and police dogs entered their home without a warrant or consent with the support of Dearborn Police officers, who allegedly helped cordon off the surrounding street.

The Saad family is alleging that Dearborn Heights police returned on July 10, when they tasered and beat Joseph Saad, the couple’s 61-year-old son. They also allegedly dragged him from the home, which they allegedly entered without consent or a warrant.

Joseph Saad allegedly didn’t come to a complete stop at a stop sign 100 feet from the home back in March which precipitated the alleged March incident, during which Zihra Saad was allegedly held at gunpoint by a police officer.

The mother, Zihra Saad, was also allegedly attacked and dragged out of her home by a female officer  on Saturday, July 10 according to lawyer Nick Hadous of Hadous Co. Law Firm, one of the two firms included in the suit along with Puckett & Faraj Firms.

She was also allegedly taken to a local hospital with bruises on her wrist and body while undergoing tests after complaining of heart palpitations and severe bodily pain according to Hadous.

WXYZ-TV reported that Zihra Saad allegedly jumped on a police officer’s back and Joseph Saad was expected to be arraigned for resisting arrest on Tuesday, July 13.

But Sam Saad, another of Zihra’s sons who witnessed the alleged incident, said that the police have changed their story about the method of the alleged attack by her against an officer.

The family believes that the alleged incident was carried out in retaliation by local police for the previous lawsuit.

Dearborn Heights police had no comment on the alleged incident in light of the pending litigation.

In regards to the first lawsuit, Dearborn Director of Public Information Mary Laundroche said that the city’s legal team is attempting to have the city’s name removed from the complaint.
