DEARBORN — Another school year has come to a close at Dearborn Fordson High School, and it’s time to honor the brightest and best in the class of 2008.

The school recently named its valedictorian and salutatorians for the senior class. The valedictorian is the person with the highest grade-point average while the salutatorians both tied for second place.

Musheinesh

Dina Musheinesh was the school’s valedictorian with a grade-point average of 4.291. Her extracurricular activities include the National Honor Society and the Key Club, and she plans to attend Wayne State next year on a scholarship, where she intends to work towards becoming a doctor.

“It feels great,” said Musheinesh about the honor.

“I’d like to thank my family, especially my dad Abdul and my mother Aicheh. I’d also like to thank my sister Mallakeh for being always there, and my brothers Moe, Wasseh, Malek, Ahmad.”

Mallakeh Musheinesh was Fordson’s valedictorian in 1997.

Dina Musheinesh was able to accomplish all this while still working 20-25 hours at Dearborn Axle for her father as a secretary. Her father gave her some breaks when tests and finals time rolled around, however. She said her hardest class at Fordson was organic chemistry, but she still managed to pull out an A through hard work.

Bakri

The salutatorians for the class were no slouches, either, with both of them notching GPAs of 4.23. The winners were Hyatt Bakri and Hussein S. Hamid. Bakri will also go to Wayne State on a scholarship and plans to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. She was captain of the varsity baseball, basketball, and softball teams as well as the Key Club treasurer.

Hamid was captain of the tennis team and president of the Dearborn Center for Math and Technology.  He plans to go to Michigan-Ann Arbor on a scholarship to be a pediatrician.

In addition to the three top students, six other students from Fordson will receive full scholarships to Michigan-Ann Arbor to attend medical school. The recipients are Ali Beydoun, Zainab Farhat, Abbas Alawieh, Mohommed Abazeed, Hussein Fardous and Abdallah Ali. Salutatorian Hussein Hamad also received one of the scholarships, which were given by William Brehm, a Fordson graduate who has given 17 scholarships totaling about $1,700,000 since 2004. 2008 marks the highest number of recipients since Brehm began giving out scholarships.

Fordson principal Imad Fadlallah talked about how proud he was of his students’ accomplishments.

“These are very, very hard-working kids and they persevered and accomplished a lot,” he said.

“These are the true leaders in our community and they are going to stand out among the rest because what they’ve done in the past four years has been amazing.”
