DETROIT – 61 percent of Republicans
in Michigan support Trump’s statement to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.,
according to a poll conducted by WXYZ/Detroit Free Press.
The poll was conducted by EPIC MRA
with WXYZ media partners in Grand Rapids, Flint, Lansing and Detroit.
Only 32% of Republicans in the
state disagreed with the question about Muslims.
The results of the poll might come
as a shock to many – Michigan is home to one of the largest Muslim populations
in the country.
If the Michigan GOP Presidential
primary were held today, Trump would win with 29% of the vote compared to Cruz
with 19% and Rubio right on his heals with 18%.
Ohio Governor John Kasich and
neurosurgeon Detroit native Ben Carson are currently polling at 8% each.
Eighteen percent are still undecided.
The survey was conducted February
27 – 29. Thirty percent of the respondents answered question on their
cell phones. The poll has a plus or minus margin of error of 4.9%.
Trump will attempt to garner
further support in Michigan following the Republican GOP Debate in Detroit on
Thursday, March 3.
On Friday, he will be holding a
rally in Warren.
