SWANTON, VT. — Roger Stockham, the man who plotted to bomb the Islamic Center of America (ICA) in Dearborn is reportedly being moved to a community facility that treats people who suffer with severe mental illness. Stockham, 65, is an inmate at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in Swanton, Vermont.
He has a history of threatening public officials, including former President George W. Bush. On Monday, a federal judge ruled that Stockham was allowed to move to the facility, Safe Haven, under the condition that he takes his medications.
Stockham was arrested near the ICA in 2011. He was stopped by police at the mosque while wearing a ski mask and had M-80 fireworks in his car, which are illegal in Michigan.
Police were able to prevent the plotted attack after Joe Nahhas, the J.S. Field’s bar operations manager at the time, alerted them with a tip. Nahhas contacted police after Stockham stopped by the bar and he overheard Stockham saying a “big explosion” was going to take place.
