The Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice is sponsoring a panel discussion entitled “American Sons: Reflections On Being Muslim in America,” Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the downtown branch of the Ann Arbor library. The event will feature four local Muslim men who will speak about their personal experiences and give local perspectives on being Muslim in America. The discussion will look at how Muslims deal with multiculturalism, and what obstructions exist in confronting this issue in and out of the Muslim community. Panelists will include a teacher and administrator, film producer, attorney and a doctor.
Dr. Sherman Jackson, former executive director of The Center for Arabic Study Abroad in Cairo, Egypt, will be moderating the event. Jackson was named one of the 500 most influential Muslims in 2009 and has been recognized as one of the top 10 experts on Islam in America.
