DEARBORN – Last week, while divestment talks stalled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor after the school’s student government voted against a long debated proposal, the movement gained major momentum at the University’s Dearborn campus.
On March 28, UMD’s student government approved a divestment resolution in an overwhelming 17-5 vote. It should be noted, however, that this isn’t the first time the campus’ student government has approved a divestment resolution. A similar resolution was approved in 2010 by the student government, but was ultimately ignored by the Board of Regents.
Divestment talks will resume at the campus on Monday, April 7th at 3 p.m. when Philosophy Professor Dr. David Skrbina will present the resolution at the Faculty Congress meeting. The meeting will be held at Kochoff Hall A inside of the University Center.
