DEARBORN — A former staff member of U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Dearborn) has become the first Arab American to serve in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.
The Biden administration’s appointment of Ahmad Ramadan to be a legislative officer in the Department of Labor makes Ramadan excited for the work ahead.
“I’m very excited to announce I have joined the Biden administration as the legislative officer for the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Labor,” Ramadan said in a Facebook post. “Public service is an honor and I am looking forward to the work ahead. I’m truly blessed for all the love and messages I’ve gotten today. I genuinely couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, friends and this incredible community. Your love, kindness and support mean the world to me.”
Dingell applauded the Biden administration for the decision. Ramadan previously served on Dingell’s staff for two years as constituent services representative and grant manager.
.@ahmadrofficial brought more than a powerful voice to our office, he brought a compassionate, deep understanding of his community & the constituents he served.

“Ahmad Ramadan brought more than a powerful voice to our office, he brought a compassionate, deep understanding of his community and the constituents he served,” she said. “For two years, he worked as our constituent services representative and grant manager, but he constantly broadened his responsibilities when a constituent, colleague or friend needed his help.
“Ahmad will also be the first Arab American to serve in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs and I have no doubt he will continue to build broad coalitions throughout our federal government. Selfishly, I am sad to lose such a trusted advisor, but I am excited to see what he can accomplish as a member of the Biden administration and a public servant for our nation.”
Ramadan said that he is very grateful for the time spent with Dingell.
“It is with tremendous gratitude to both Rep. Debbie Dingell and my colleagues that I look back on my two years as a member of Team Dingell,” he said. “Your guidance, friendship and empathy means more than I can ever express and I’m forever grateful. We have a lot of work to do, and I can’t wait to get started! I’m honored to serve in the Biden administration and hope to make you proud. I can’t wait to celebrate the success and appointments of many more individuals in the near future.”
